Community Policing

The Vineland Police Community Policing Unit consists of several officers who engage the public using a variety of methods. Every officer has completed a certified bicycle patrol course. The use of bicycles enhances the mobility of officers and adds a silent tactical approach to patrol. In addition to law enforcement advantages, the bicycle officers will seek to develop community relations and encourage interaction with the public, specifically along the business district of Landis Avenue.

The bicycle officers will participate in all facets of police work. With the element of surprise, this unit will have an impact on quality of life issues as well as proactive enforcement endeavors. The unit is presently utilizing Scott Aspect 640 mountain bikes which were donated by Scott. In addition to the bicycles, the unit utilizes a Segway and T-3 vehicle to patrol the downtown area.

Crime Prevention is another aspect of our Community Policing Unit. Our crime prevention officer is responsible for maintaining business emergency contact lists as well as coordinating community crime prevention efforts via the Neighborhood Watch Program.

Community Policing officers sponsor several events throughout the year, which are designed to engage the public. These events include Coffee with a Cop, National Night Out, summer barbeques, and many others.
